I’ve had the same thing happen - an address I thought was only used internally ended up being associated with spam. It could be that the address was listed externally long enough to be picked up by a bot, or maybe someone got their address booked hacked on their accounts at work or at home, etc., its really hard to tell. One thing is for sure: it is really annoying!

It is likely someone who you communicated with let it out inadvertently. You have no control over another machine where your email ends up and bulk email spammers “read” addresses from webmail servers. The term is “harvesting” and it can happen to anyone at any time. I created an account at hotmail a while back just to see what would happen and I never used it at all, only sending ONE email to another account of mine to confirm it was working and within a few days, it was getting loads of spam. NO email address is safe…

Okay, I am just going to say it. That chick has a nice ***! She wears the jeans well. Anyway, it could be it got sold or they just got lucky and typed the name and it was right. My work email is supposed to filter it out, however, things get through. I just delete and go on.

it could be a few things that could have happened. one when you send a email to someone that knows it; they could have sent it to someone by forwarding. then from there it goes on an sooner or latter spam comes. thats the main one though. when people forward an they include your email

It’s called hackers. Some people are really good about getting into people’s e-mail addresses and sending e-mails that way.
